The staff @ The Funkadelphia Experience remember 'Lady T' Teena Marie (March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010)

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the friend's & family of an incredible women Teena Marie.  Not only was Teena Marie a beautiful person inside and out but one of the most gifted singer/songwriters of our era.  I had the pleasure of witnessing her top notch stage presence and singing prowess that was second to none at numerous Jazz event's from Philly to Hampton,VA.  I read an article somewhere saying that Teena Marie had a 'black voice trapped in a white girls body' and I have to agree with the statement from her extensive work with the late great Rick 'Bustin Out Of L7' James to her solo work on such renowned labels as Staxx & Motown records.  I would like at this moment to send a personal condolence to a great friend of mind Lee Cadena or as alot of us affectionately know him by 'Big Daddy Lee Almighty' who was Teena Marie's manager for many years, Lee if you need anything at all please let us know we are here for you.  On that closing note we will always love and adore Teena and will never forget about all of the people she touched with her music.  Below is an official statement from cnn.com regarding her passing.  CNN.com press release on Teena Marie: Teena Marie, a celebrated R&B singer-songwriter, was found dead Sunday at her California home, her manager said. Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, the 54-year-old artist famously paired with late funk legend Rick James and was nominated four times for a Grammy Award, according to her official website. Marie was found dead by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, manager Mike Gardner said. "Teena was a black voice trapped in a white body," said Cathy Hughes, founder of Radio One, a broadcasting company that targets African-American and urban listeners. "I would always tell her that she was one of the greatest vocalists of our time." Among her songs were "Lovergirl," "Portuguese Love," "Ooo La La La," and "I'm a Sucker for Your Love." While no cause of death has been released, the singer's publicist Lynn Jeter said that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure -- a neurological event, marked by loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions, according to the Mayo Clinic -- a month ago. "Luckily, someone was there," Jeter said of that seizure. "The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure." The publicist said that she had a "great" conversation on Saturday with Marie, who told her that she was excited about heading to Atlanta to perform this week -- in what would have been her first performance since the seizure. Marie sang under various record labels, including Motown, Epic, Stax Records and Cash Money Classics, since bursting on the scene as a 19-year-old, according to her website. Her last studio album, Congo Square, featured several collaborations. "The enduring influence of Teena's inspirational, trailblazing career, could only have been made possible through her brilliant song-writing, showmanship and high energy passion which laid the ground work for the future generations of R&B, hip-hop, and soul," said Gene Rumsey, chief label officer with Concord Music Group. "We feel extremely fortunate to have worked with a visionary who changed music in indelible ways." Eddie Levert, founder of the vocal group The O'Jays, praised Marie as both a singer and mother. "There are a lot of black people who swore by her and believed in her, as far as her music was concerned," he said. "She was a good mom, and to me, that is saying a lot.''

End of 2010 'featured artist' DJ AP

2011 is fast approaching us but the staff here @ 'The Funkadelphia Experience' felt that we had enough time and space to feature one of the most dedicated and hardest working DJ's I know in the game, DJ AP! A brief introduction to those not familiar with DJ AP. AP has put out a countless number of party breaks & remixes on one of the largest and most respected record labels AV8 in addition have some of the highest sales for the label. DJ AP has also rocked some of the most prestige's nightclubs nationwide and can now be found lending his 'midas touch' to some of the largest and most established Atlantic City Venue's including Dusk inside Caesars casino & resort. With a deep history in mixtapes and plenty of high-profile DJ work behind him, DJ A.P. gets respect both in the studios and in the streets. Besides his DJ work with Ronny Jordan and Channel Live, DJ A.P. is also a mixtape maven. In 1993 he formed the NRC (Negative Reflection Crew) with Just Blaze (then known as DJ Just). Originally a New Jersey collective, NRC spread worldwide with members in Seattle (DJ B-Mello), Houston (Baby Roo), and all points in between. The crew became known for their party music DJ sets, which avoided spinning plain old hits in favor of remixes and blends. They captured this excitement in their street-level mixtape series Against All Odds and the freestyle-heavy Sudden Impact, which took The Source magazine's Tale of the Tapes number one spot in 2001. DJ A.P. has also released numerous club singles on the AV8 label, both as a solo artist and with DJ Sizzahandz as State 2 State. On a closing note I am honored to be a member of DJ AP's dj collective Negative Reflection crew! Included in this feature I have included DJ AP's latest mix entitled 'Social Prestige the mix-tape' in which he did for Social Prestige Ent. based out of Orlando,FL. Please enjoy and click the picture to learn more about DJ AP. Salute! Social Prestige Mixtape 1 by Social Prestige Ent.

Throwback Mix-Show of the day. DJ OPAL! on DFM Radio Moscow Russia.

A brief introduction to 'Tha World Wide Show' w/DJ OPAL!  This mix-show was created roughly around the year 1998 by the brilliant minds of 'The Mayor Mike Jax and myself.  We have been doing a college radio mix-show entitled 'The No-Doubt' show on WKPS Penn State University and it was going great but I needed a custom mix-show to flood the internet at the time when mix-show's on the web were few and far between.  After having a successful run on a few top notch websites including http://www.ughh.com, http://www.hiphopcanada.com and http://www.hiphopdx.com it was time to offer the mix-show on an actual radio station.  This is where the following mix comes in to play.  This is roughly an hour of a two hour mix of 'Tha World Wide Show' which was broadcast weekly on DFM Radio in Moscow, Russia for roughly three years!  Please enjoy and don't forget to subscribe to the blog and leave any comment's of thought's that may be on your mind.
Enjoy. DJ OPAL!
